WEST BRIAR GRIZZLIES WIN/DOMINATE TEAM
STATE WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS
AT ST JOHNS
On Saturday February 4, 2012
our Wrestling Grizzlies
won by a landslide, beating all other schools to win
the
Middle School Texas State Championships.
Last Saturday our wrestlers had an outstanding meet
in Dallas gaining Individual awards and surpassed that,
by over
whelming their competition as a Team
and winning the Texas Team Championship Title.
Except for a couple of forfeits
where a class weight
was not available, West Briar wrestlers won
48 out of about 50 matches.
Congratulations to the 2011-
2012 West Briar 8th grader
wrestlers, who no doubt, as they move on to
West Side High, will continue to dominate
their
competition.
The Parents of these
outstanding athlete/scholars,
want to thank Coaches Gumm and Coulter
for their outstanding work as mentors and teachers,
especially the parents of the 8th grade boys,
who
have been wrestling for the last
2 and 3 years under their guidance.
Without
their untiring devotion to helping our boys
succeed, our kids would not have
been
the best they have become.

Individual
State Wrestling Tournament
Champions – Wow – I can’t say enough how many compliments we
received about the kids this weekend. The compliments weren’t all about
wrestling – it was the waiters and managers at the restaurants, the night
clerks and manager at the hotel, parents from the other teams….all going out of
their way to compliment our boys on how well behaved they were.The boys stayed focused and treated this weekend as the “business
trip” that it is. All of the boys wrestled well and handled winning and losing
with pride. We had a few heartbreak matches and we had some amazing moments.

What is a Roll-A-Round? Basically the area Middle School teams get
together and have an informal practice and competition together.
Traditional
Meet - At a traditional meet we taking the starting line up and now
this is a pure competition. If we are away we rely on parents to car
pool the wrestlers to the event and if we are home we need your help at
the table working the clock and scoreboard. At a wrestling meet the boys
must be on time, on weight and ready to wrestle (have all their gear,
hair trimmed, beards shaved and fingernails clipped). We will warm up as
a team and stay until the last wrestler is finished.
